Johnson & Johnson also made $370.3 million
in non-cash contributions. Johnson & Johnson
reports product donations at fair market
value, which is consistent with the reporting
methods of nonprofit organizations. The
Company contributed $258.8 million of
selected pharmaceutical products to needy
patients in the U.S. during 2007. The balance
went to private voluntary organizations
that assist medically underserved people
in developing countries and provide
emergency disaster relief. The change
related to in-kind giving in 2007 versus
the prior year was attributed to the
Medicare Modernization Act in the U.S.
that allowed Medicare-eligible patients
greater access to broader prescription
coverage through participation in Medicare
Part D programs versus participation in
individual, company-sponsored patient
assistance programs.
